Opening Friday: Tideland
Here it is, finally! The Shot-On-Location-drama that made director Terry Gilliam a star in Saskatchewan! Its dark and disturbing content notwithstanding, Tideland is a feast for the eyes, which, be forewarned, you may have to keep covered at times! Young newcomer Jodelle Ferland gives an incredible performance as Jeliza-Rose, a curious, imaginative child whose junkie parents leave her to her own devices most of the time. On the untimely death of her mother (Jennifer Tilly) from an overdose, Jeliza-Rose and her burnt-out rock-star father (Jeff Bridges) retreat to a ramshackle house on the prairies. Under the endless sky, Jeliza faces isolation and squalor again. With talking doll-heads, mysterious bog-men and a creepy witch for company, she stumbles into a macabre world formed, to her shocked innocence, not entirely in her mind.
